Many people ask what it is that I do in my own life—what is my practice? And, as importantly, what practices are known to really, really change our lives for the better? My company’s name, Praxis, comes from this notion—Praxis is a a Greek term, probably used earliest by Aristotle (384 BC–322 BC). It is the process of putting theoretical knowledge into action; it is also defined as an habitual or established practice; and the exercise or practice of an art, science, or skill. In practical terms it represents the intersection, or integration, of belief and behavior. I can believe that meditation and EFT and good nutrition are important, but if I don’t practice them, they don’t do me any good at all.

I do these things—

  • Practice EFT often (I do it all day long, but also on weekends!).
  • Meditate and pray (there is so much science to support these practices that even if you don’t believe in anything remotely divine it is worth doing this—I meditate every day for twenty minutes, and pray often.)
  • Exercise
  • Give to others—volunteer, help others out
  • Love my friends and family, stay involved in loving, spiritual communities and friendships
  • Practice good nutrition

The last part, practicing good nutrition, is extremely important. Basically, we do really well if we eat a lot of fruit and veggies, and a bit of protein–legumes are good—and little of much else. I love fish, so am not a vegetarian by any means, and I love the variety we have around here so have fish often. It is best to avoid sugar, best to avoid high-calorie, high fat foods. Not really newsbreaking, but worth mentioning. But sometimes it is hard to get all the nutrients I need, and I know there is a lot of good in antioxidants, etc. I have, over the years, tried a dizzying array of supplements and vitamins—but it is a lot to keep up with, much less know which companies are producing the best products. I know you’ll have favorites, and I encourage you to do your research and find out what is right for you. Go to workshops like “Food as Medicine” offered by the Center for Mind/Body Medicine, in Washington, DC. Find out what works for you. I’ve recently found what seems to be a very solid neutraceutical company that creates nutritional supplements and many other products for the specific purpose of creating and enhancing cellular renewal. The company is called Univera. Their science and quality seem to be top-notch. I am particularly fond of Ageless Xtra, which is the supplement that I use daily. They may or may not be right for you–all of the other practices (meditation, exercise, taking good care of your overall lifestyle) are, in my opinion, more important than any given supplement. Still, it’s worth mentioning!

Please note that I am not a licensed health professional and offer these suggestions as a coach and practitioner. I use these ideas daily. Please consult with your physician before you start any excersize or nutrition program.
