healing journey

I came to this work probably in much the same way that you came to this site; I needed relief from challenges in my life. Several years ago, I had a physical crisis that would not resolve itself. I began to learn about healing, prayer, and meditation. I began to pray. I began to meditate. I learned Reiki, and gave it to myself, friends, and family (I still love Reiki and am now a Reiki Master).

I was then diagnosed with a very severe case of eosinophilic esophagitis (this is something one only learns how to spell or pronounce because one has it, I think.) It is life altering, and in some cases, life threatening. It is incurable. It is also frightening, as the esophagus is completely distorted and it is not detectable until food gets caught. I went through a number of surgical procedures as a palliative approach to the problem, which wound up tearing my esophagus twice and put me further at risk. I couldn’t eat most food, had been diagnosed with so many allergies that I couldn’t go out to eat, and had to give away my beloved cat. I wrote about the disease, hoping to at least come to peace with it. This was noble, but not much fun.

I then trained in another energy healing modality. I was also going to a lovely, small church in DC, called Christ Church Georgetown, at 31st and O, and every Wednesday morning at 7:30, I went to the service there, which always ends with a healing ritual. (If you are ever in town, do stop in!) Finally, with all of these modalities in place, I felt a shift and I knew something was different. This was partly a sensing, but also, as a very practical matter, it was measurable and concrete—I wasn’t going to the hospital anymore, and food wasn’t getting caught in my esophagus anymore (previously, it had been doing so 5x/day, and my trips to the hospital had been happening once a month or so). I figured something was going in the right direction. Sure enough, I was cured. I also had allergy tests again, and I was cleared of all of the ones that got in the way of my life. (I am now completely clear of allergies, but that came later.) So. My very own divinely-given miracle. I was absolutely delighted, of course, and I adopted a cat again.

another incurable disease

A wiser person would have given up the stressful job; the comfort of a feline friend can only go so far in helping reduce stress, though I did assume that all of the Reiki and meditation would make me immune to other problems. I have been in publishing most of my adult life, and went from being head of publications at the Freer and Sackler Museums, Smithsonian Institution, to being director of publications at Dumbarton Oaks, a scholarly institution that is a part of Harvard University.

These were both extremely high-pressure jobs, and the stress wore away at me. I developed yet another incurable problem–this time not life-threatening, but serenity-threatening. It was a terrible case of a skin disease that took over my scalp and was excruciating to the point that I couldn’t get to sleep at night easily, and when I did, I was awakened by the itching. Doctors said it was incurable (this, by the way, is really demoralizing—if you are a doctor, do avoid this sort of proclamation).

A dear friend, who happens to be a gifted practitioner, Diane Butturff, told me about EFT and despite my skepticism, I downloaded the manual at Gary’s site (www.emofree.com) and started tapping. In two days, 75% of it was cleared. Diane then did a session on me over the phone and by the next morning, 95% of it was gone—she is really good! (It is now completely gone). That really caught my attention. I was hooked, and I dove into this work—studied all of Gary’s DVDs, got the certifications available then (and now have added the new certification), began working with people, fell in love with the work, studied under Jan Luther, EFT Master (a wonderful soul), and chose to devote my life to this work. I am daily grateful for this and continue to learn and grow with each client, each session with other practitioners, and each challenge of my own. And now, I would love to be a part of your healing journey— call (202-746-2245) or email me at
